Why Educate Yourself?

from: Janice Sharman

Are you sure you want to run an Internet based business? There are no recognized schools or universities that teach you how to start or run an online work at home business. Most of the time you learn by trial and error, so why would anyone want to work at home?

The answer, in a nutshell, is "for the benefits!" In today's global market there are quite a few benefits. Here are just a few:

You can revolve your schedule around your young kids needs and not miss a single one of those "aha" moments as they are growing up.

You have no traffic jams! Your commute is from one room of your house to another and you don't even have to dress up to go to work, assuming, of course your work does not involve video-conferencing!

The set-up costs are considerably lower than with an offline business. Start up costs between $100-$500 are quite normal.

Your market is global. Anybody with a computer and an internet connection anywhere in the world is your customer. Just this benefit alone outweighs most of the others.

And the corollary is also beneficial. Your business is totally portable! If you have access to a computer and the Internet anywhere in the world, you can keep on top of your business with whatever level of diligence you choose.

When you are successful the profits are HUGE!

Getting an online education is not really difficult. Business start-up advice is available all over the Internet. Discerning which to use and which to lose requires some effort on your part. You will quickly discover that many of the touted courses are regurgitated ideas that the authors have gleaned second-hand. They are really designed to get more from you (such as your contact information for a steady stream of unsolicited offers) than they are prepared to give. Your best bet would be to learn from someone who has already proven himself or herself as a successful Home Business Entrepreneur. At the completion of a good training course that targets your knowledge of how to build an online business you should know how to:

o Design web sites that sell your products

o Rank high in the search engines

o Find classified ads that produce sales

o Build a HUGE responsive opt-in e-mail list

o Avoid online scams

o ... and many other "must know" topics.

"The Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet" by Cory Rudl, a recognized expert in online marketing, is an excellent course for anyone wanting to start an online Home Business. If you truly understand the value of the course and the impact it will have on the revenue potential of your online business, the price is inconsequential.

Put another way, should you choose to go it alone without the benefit of expert guidance the cost over time could mean the loss of your business in its entirety.

Obtaining an online education is just as vital to your Online Home Business success as your professional university education would be if you were thinking of becoming a successful doctor, accountant or engineer. The difference here is that online experts are the tutors, the university is your home and your lessons come in the form of training videos, downloadable ebooks and sometimes books by mail.

Don't be lulled into thinking that success online is haphazard and sloppy. It may be quicker and less expensive than in the brick and mortar world but successful business building requires the same type of foundation no matter where it occurs. You need to have a good grasp of what you are trying to accomplish and know how to get there. You can choose to learn from the school of hard knocks losing a lot of money and time in the process, or you can choose the smart route. Seek out and learn from the experts. You will find yourself paying a lot less in the long run and turning a profit a lot quicker. Make the choice to get the best Home Business Education available anywhere.

The Sage's Son: What became of the Buffett billions?

It is a typical midsummer's day, duck-egg blue skies, a wisp of cloud, not a hint of breeze. A convoy of vehicles is burrowing deep into the impossibly green mountains of rural Congo. The first, a flat-top, is bristling with men and machine guns and the last, a jeep, is driven by a brilliant young anthropologist who also happens to be heir to the now defunct Belgian throne. I am in the truck in ...

Teachers 're-energize' in the real world

by Nick Veronin Next year, when Marisa DaSilva's students ask her, in exasperation, how they will ever use the things she is teaching them in the real world, she'll have an answer. The Crittenden teacher is working at Hewlett Packard this summer as part of a fellowship program that pairs local teachers with high tech companies. Next year, DaSilva will pass on some of the real-world skills she ...
